Tips For Parents While The Kids Are At Camp

Now is the time that school has finished, and camp has begun. If you’re a parent that has sent your child away for the summer, understand that they will be back before you know it. We recommend using this precious time wisely, both for yourself as well as to help prepare for a smooth return for your children.  Feel free to create a checklist and get some ideas below.

Self-Care:

Time to break out of your routine and have some fun while your kids are away. Now that you're no longer running carpools or helping with homework, it’s time to chill. Put yourself first, whether that means trying something new, pampering yourself, going on a trip or seeing friends, listen to your needs and do something for you!

Declutter:

You might try to keep your house clean, but with your children constantly running around, it’s impossible to always keep it tidy and organized. Now that the kids are out of the house, it’s the perfect time to reset and reorganize their bedrooms and play spaces. Get rid of the things that haven’t been touched in 6 months, purge some of those old belongings, try out new organizational methods and see what works for you. You won’t regret getting ready for the upcoming school year!

Help continue your child’s camp skills:

Being away from home, your child is learning many new skills. They have a new routine and even some responsibility while they’re away at camp. Your kids are making their beds every day, helping with bunk chores, cleaning up after meals and even doing their own laundry. It’s important to help your children continue their skills of growth once they return home. Make sure you are resetting your expectations so that they don’t lose these skills. You won’t regret it once your kid is home doing their own laundry and helping with the dishes!

The next time you hear yourself asking, “what should I do today?” take a breath and make sure to check your summer to-do list. Whether one day is spent prioritizing yourself, taking a break from your usual day to day childcare routines, or prepping for your kids return, take advantage of this summer!
