Child Therapy

Just like adults, there are times when children need expert help to navigate problems in their lives. If you have concerns that your child is struggling, meeting with a child therapist is an excellent step to helping your child get back on course.

Children are not emotionally or mentally mature enough to deal with many of the problems they encounter in their environment. As a result, they may not have adequate coping mechanisms to properly evaluate issues. Child therapy can help children develop the necessary skills to make them more comfortable handling complex problems.

What can we expect?

We will start with a one-hour intake meeting with the parents/guardians. This will help establish the concerns that are bringing your child to therapy, as well as the goals you hope your child will achieve by attending sessions. After the intake meeting, I will develop a therapeutic trajectory, specific to your child’s needs. This will be our guide as we work toward achieving the goals we discussed.

What areas do you specialize in?

We work with children who have been brought to therapy for many reasons. These include:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Adjustment Disorders

  • Divorcing Parents

  • Mood Disorders

  • Autism Spectrum Disorders

  • School Refusal

  • And more…

My spouse and I have a very contentious relationship, can you still work with our child?

We specialize in high-conflict cases and can help if you are going through a contentious divorce and would like a neutral party to help your child navigate the divorce. Many therapist won’t take on high-conflict cases due to the often uncooperative nature of the parents. We have extensive experience in these type of cases and are very familiar with finding ways for the child to achieve their goals in a healthy and safe environment.

Do you provide Play Therapy?

Yes. And here is why it’s beneficial: There's a communication gap between adults and children and that is why many children struggle to express their emotions and articulate to others. Children learn to understand the world through play and show their emotions through play, toys can act as symbols for children to show their inner feelings. As play therapists, we join the children in their comfort world of play. That is why many children thrive with play therapy. Play therapy is a form of therapy primarily used for children. Play therapy can be done using children's own comfort toys, blocks, trains, cars, sand, art, and many other techniques. During this time, we are able to observe and gather insight in order to help a child explore their emotions and resolve previous trauma. With play therapy, children are able to learn how to cope and redirect inappropriate behaviors. As the relationship strengthens, the child is able to become more verbal, creative, empathetic, and develop stronger social and emotional skills.
