Resolutions versus Goals in 2025

Happy healthy new year and only good things in 2025!

Most of us like to make resolutions and typically they don’t last very far into the new year. So why not set goals instead? Using the term goal can allow for the ability to break the task or desire down into small steps and as we know when we see progress we keep on the path versus jumping off and giving up quickly. It can also lead to long term behavioral changes to sustain any goal your looking to achieve permanently.

Keeping things simple and manageable is always the key for success and sustainability. This simple strategy can be applied to goals surrounding health, eating, drinking, financial, even social goals.

For example, if you are trying to be more social in 2025 make a commitment to go once a week in January then add two additional social exposures in February. In March add another two experiences then in April you can push for another two exposures. In just four months you should be able to tolerate 10 social situations in a one-month period. If you need to slow this down even more you could dial back one additional exposure over each month and carry it out further into June and July.

Remember, there no pressure to reach a goal and you should always work at your pace and not the pace of others. The idea is make long term changes in your life that last for years. If you push too hard too fast then you are more likely to shut down out of frustration.
